The well (Hougomont)

In June 1815, the farm was the epicenter for the fighting in the Battle of Waterloo. In his 1862 novel 'Les Misérables', Victor Hugo describes how 300 bodies were thrown down a well at Hougoumont, creating a popular myth about the well pictured. To this day no archaeological evidence of human remains has been found.
