Description

large circular aluminium medal struck by Birmingham Association of Far East Prisoners of War to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the surrender of the Japanese to Allies under the command of Lieutenant General Douglas MacArthur. The obverse has the symbol of the FEPOW Association symbol of a flaming torch with FEPOW in a loop below it and lauerl leaves highlighted in coloured enamel. The reverse depicts the USS Missouri (BB63)in which the surrender was signed 2nd September 1945. Given to Mr Ivor Self, ex- 5th Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiment, who became a Far East Prisoner of War in February 1942. The medal has a wooden presentation box and cardboard cover.
