Accession Number NWHRM : 6875.10
Description
Japanese silk flag from the collection of Jack Ringwood Eagle, 2nd Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiment, presumably taken during the 1944-1945 Burma Campaign. The white space around the central red circle is filled with small hand-painted Japanese characters in black, wihth four much larger characters along one edge. It is probably a 'hinomaru yosegaki' – a national flag signed by friends and family, often featuring short messages wishing them victory and good luck, commonly carried by Japanese soldiers.
