flask
Accession Number NWHRM : 6596
Description
Metal flask, a 'tonnelet', for brandy or rum. Green, white and red stripes, horizontal design, tap valve at one end, cap and chain in centre. A small metal imitation barrel, mimicing earlier wooden examples, carried by a 'cantiniere' of the French Army in the second half of the 19th century. Slightly ovoid with two raised hoops around it, the three resulting bands are painted red, white and green. There is a braid shoulder strap so that the barrel can be worn diagonally across the body. On the top is a filling cap and on the red stipe a brass spout with tap.
