Accession Number NWHRM : 6541.12
Description
Embroidered table mat made from black cotton with a red fringe. In the centre is the badge of the Royal Norfolk Regiment - a seated figure of Britannia holding an olive sprig and trident, with a Union Jack shield resting against her side - inside a red diamond border. Beneath it is a banner reading 'The Norfolk Regiment', above which 'IX' has been embroidered in cream thread, a reference to when the regiment was called the 9th Foot and later the 9th East Norfolk Regiment. Within this central diamond, and on the black linen of the main design, swirling spirals have been emboridered in multicoloured thread.
