Description

Letter written by Colonel Borton Commanding the 2nd Battalion in South Africa to Colonel A.C. Becher commanding officer of the 1st Battalion in India dated 29th March 1902. Borton reports they have been sent to reinforce Lichenburg following Lord Methuen's disaster. He complains of the poor quality of the troops he has been sent from India, fat and unfit they are having difficulty on the long marches and lack disicpline. But the monotony of guarding blockhouses is worse than the treks. He describes how Kekewich insisted on flank and rear guards in extended order for marches, whilst other armies moved by train. He ends with news and comments about named officers.
