Description

Letter written by Colonel Borton of the 2nd Battalion which he commanded in South Africa to Colonel A.C. Becher commanding officer of the 1st Battalion in India, 19th August 1901. Borton mentions many officers by name, not always favourably. He explains how passes are guarded and complains of the Militia Reservists as 'whinning/wailing willies'. He describes some of the work they do, including removing families from farms and capturing their livestock.
