Accession Number NWHRM : 5069.21
Description
This map is enclosed in a hard cover casing titled N.E. Frontier Sheet No.5-12; 6-13 and details the North Eastern Frontier, comprising parts of Great Tibet: Sikkim, Assam and Bhutan. A scale is also indicated on the cover: one inch to sixteen miles. It is a paper map reinforced with cotton, bound and folded like a book published under the direction of Major-General C. Strahen, Royal Engineer, the Surveyor General of India in December 1879. The map is primarily sepia toned, but areas of water are indicated with blue and other borders are either green or dark blue. There is no reference key for what the other colors mean. The base of the map does include citations for the map, notes, abbreviations, and an index to adjoining sheets. The map labels bridges, monasteries or temples, passes, lakes, rivers and streams, Fort and Head Quarters of Officials, peaks, encamping grounds, staging places for officials, and villages.
