Description

A coloured field sketch map depicting the Battle of Subraon which was between the East India Company and the Sikh Khalsa Army on 10 February 1846 on the Sutledge (Sutlej) River, Punjab during the First Anglo-Sikh War. The map was reputed to have come from the possessions of T.E. Lawrence. It was surveyed by Bengal Engineers Captain Baker and two Lieutenants R. Strachey and C.J. Hodgson and the artist was C.M. Creagh; his signature is located in the bottom right corner. Along the right hand side of the map contains a legend that references British Camps, military positions, heavy artillery, troops in the attack, enemy defenders, enemy entrenchments, batteries and connecting works and entrenchments, and battle lines. The map also depicts blocks for British Infantry, Cavalry, Foot Artillery, and Horse Artillery (coloured red) and Sikh Forces (coloured green). The bottom left corner of the map displays a scale with no discernible type of measurement.
