Description

Highly decorated, round embossed Burmese silver shield, mounted on black wood with individual silver motifs around the edge depicting the regimental badge Britannia, crossed rifles, the early Battle Honours listed on a ribbon winding around laurel branches. Blank silver plates have been inscribed with the winning companies of the Inter-Company Shooting competition from 1876 to 1888 and the individual winners of 2nd Battalion Best Shot. A third silver plate lists the Company's on active service in Burma from 1889 to 1908 and South Africa. A second round black wooden frame, added in 1928, has silver motifs of machine guns, revolvers, the Battle Honours since 1877 and two blank plates ready to be inscribed. They have not been engraved. The central Burmese silver shield depicts classical figures with armour and trophies of arms. The piece is titled 2nd Battalion, 9th East Norfolk Regiment.
