This Turkish army water-bottle is made of copper sheet. It was acquired by a soldier of the 1/4th or 1/5th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment from a dump of abandoned enemy equipment at Haifa railway station. It probably originally had a fabric cover which could be wetted in order to keep the water cool. The two Territorial Army battalions fought at Gallipoli in 1915. They spent the last two years of the war fighting from Egypt through three battles of Gaza to Jerusalem and beyond. This bottle was obtained shortly before the armistice when the Norfolks' return to Egypt.
