This weapon was also issued for infantry without a sawback but it was the pioneer model that outraged the Allies and evinced ironic declamations of German ‘Kultur’. (Other countries had previously also issued such bayonets e.g. the British Elcho bayonets.) This example, marked ‘FA’ on the back edge, was manufactured for the Saxon Army in 1907 by Weyersburg, Kirschbaum & Cie, Solingen. FA stands for King Friedrich August III of Saxony 1904-1918.
