Waziristan is on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Regiment was sent there on a number of occasions in the 19th and 20th Century. The region was an independent tribal territory of the Wazir tribes until 1893 and remained outside the British Empire. But tribal raiding into British-ruled territory was a constant problem for the British, eliciting frequent punitive expeditions between 1860 and 1945. The region became part of Pakistan in 1947.
