Description
A 1st edition grid coloured paper map of Munsan-ni NW, Korea (sheet 6527). It was prepared under the direction of the Engineer of General Headquarters, Far East Command by the 64th Engineer Base Topographic Battalion. It is mainly based on aerial photography from October 1946 and October 1947 and has been partially verified by reconnaissance. The map uses romanized Korean to label places. The bottom left corner of the map details the production of the map and underneath these details is the legend which explains multiple geographic and cartographic markers. Such markers include roads, railroads, power transmission lines, province, county and township boundaries, levees, and temples. Topographic markers include offshore danger areas, rocks (and their appearance at high or low tide), reservoirs, fields, swamps, woods, and scrubs. To the right of the legend are three scales detailing miles, meters, and yards. One example of the scales shows 2.5 inches to 1 mile. A grid North and a magnetic North is also provided near the scale. The right hand side of the map provides a glossary for Korean provincial suffixes in English, an index to boundaries, a coverage diagram of compilation methods, and an index to adjoining sheets.
