Description

Infantry Officer's sword, 1822 Pattern. Worn by Brigadier General R.W. Hare. gilt-brass, knuckle bow leading to 4 bar basket with crowned VR Royal Cypher, down-swept quillon, reverse of guard does not fold down. 2 small holes drilled in the guard by the quillon. Pommel - circular diminishing discs leading to a tang button, foliate decorated back-piece, ribbed ferrule, grey fish-skin grip bound with yellow twisted wire. Wrist strap wound round pommel end of knuckle guard: red ribbon with 2 yellow stripes ‘pearl’ rivet, tarnished silver, red and yellow thread knot. Blade: almost straight, flat back spear point, single fuller. Scabbard: steel, 2 bands with loose rings, drag shoe. below mouthpiece (reverse) WILKINSON PALL MALL
