Description

Cavalry troop sword. The length of blade, position of the sword-knot slit on top of the guard and its turned down inner edge show that this is a cavalry, pattern 1885. Enfield sealed pattern no. 641. Hilt: Sheet steel bowl pierced with 4 triangular piercings suggesting a Maltese Cross. Inner edge turned down.Single slot for wrist strap at top of guard. Diamond-hatched, black leather grips secured either side of the tang with 5 rivets. A hand stop at the top of the grip provides a better hold. Blade: Straight with flat back edge, shallow fuller starting 58mm from guard, spear point, false edge at point. Scabbard: Steel wood-lined, 2 fixed loops either side near mouthpiece, drag shoe. Pattern 1885 Mark 1
