Description

Luftwaffenschwert 1934, Third Reich Luftwaffe sword captured by the 1st Battalion Royal Norfolk Regiment in 1945. The hilt is of bright white metal, the pommel is a vertical disc containing rounded swastika and oak leaves around the rim. The grip is in dunkelblau, (dark blue) leather with diagonal light stitching. Ferrule with rounded swastika set in circle. Cross guard has two down-swept wings each of 3 feathers. The blade is straight, double edged with short narrow fuller and spear point. The scabbard has bright steel top-mount with 2 fixed rings either side near mouth-piece. Dunkeblau leather suspension straps leading to clip for attachment to belt hook. Dunkelblau leather-covered scabbard. Bright steel chape and round finial. On the obverse of the top mount 'HK' is scored into the metal.
