Description

Gurka double edged knife in sheath. Hilt: 1 piece green horn enclosing tang. Near-cylindrical widening towards butt. Steel ferrule 17mm/0.7ins. 55mm/2.2ins x 25mm/1in steel plate crossguard of slight S shape. Blade: straight, double-edged with medial flat equating to a shallow fuller. 2 cutouts beyond shoulder giving spear-blade look and analagous to cho on a kukri. Scabbard and frog: light brown leather covered wood with diamond-shaped steel chape. The leather is stitched on the back. There is a large ridge across the scabbard 37mm/1.5ins from the mouth to retain the frog which has a 183mm/7.2ins belt loop. The hilt and scabbard of this weapon are similar ti rge Collections's 'kikri small Almora 1921'. Part of the 11 dagger donation from Lt Col R T Frere.
