Inscription This stone statue of Britannia, the sign of the London Assurance, was displayed outside the Corporation's offices from 1735 until 1845. It is the emblem used for their earliest Fire Marks and a variant of the crest in their coat-of-arms. In 1845 when the Corporation moved, it was left in the old premises and later found its way into the possession of The Commercial Bank of Scotland, whose Directors kindly presented it to The London Assurance in 1950. It has now been placed over the main door of the Head Office at No. 1 King William Street
