Plaque removed from one of the four Turkish 15-pounder guns captured by the 2nd Battalion the Norfolk Regiment after the battle of Nasiryah, 24th July 1915. Nasiryah is on the Euphrates, over a hundred miles Northwest of Basra, Mesopotamia (modern Iraq). As part of the 18th (Indian) Division the Norfolks had been shipped up the river Euphrates on board the steamship 'Medjidieh'. After landing they served as the reserve and fired only 1130 rounds of rifle ammunition, that is one or two by each soldier. Casualties were one man wounded, very different from what would happen to the battalion at the siege of Kut a few months later.
