Description

Pattern 1831 mameluke-hilted scimitar The dress sword of Sir John Harvey Bart., Commanding Officer, 4th Militia Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment between 1896 -1904. Hilt; gilt-brass mounts & quillons with crossed sword & baton surrounded by wreath of oak-leaves & acorns on the ecusson (centre of cruciform quillons & double languets). Ivory grips held by 2 floral-headed rivets & pierced at recurved top by 8mm/0.3 in hole for sword knot cord. Sword knot with acorn. Blade, curved, rounded back edge, double edged for last 305mm/12 ins. Scabbard: black leather with metal locket middle-band & chape with chevron decoration. Bullion sword knot attached to hilt by red & blue cord.
