Field service cap 1939-43, worn by Major R T H Reynolds MC. This pattern of cap was later replaced by the khaki beret.

Field service (fore and aft) cap introduced in 1937 to be worn with battledress; replaced in 1943 by the more practical General Service cap. Roderick Reynolds joined the army as a 2nd lieutenant in 1909. In the First World war he served with the 7th Battalion on the Western Front and the the 2nd Battalion in Mesopotamia. He retired in 1935, but rejoined at the beginiong of the Second World War and continued to serve at the Regimental Depot in Britannia Barracks until 1945.
