This cap has the Deutscheskokarde above a black cloth band, but no Landeskokarde on the band. The Deutscheskokarde is a metal disc with red centre and black outer ring; on other ranks' there would be a middle, white, circle. Red/white/black are the Imperial German colours. After 1910, caps were field grey, the white or coloured 'undress' ones being reserved for special occasions behind the lines. The black band and red piping indicate this is an artillery or technical officer's cap. Special Prussian Officer hat.
