Description
Hoard of seven gold Late Bronze Age bracelets. The bracelets are of penannular form, five having C-shaped cross-sections and flat, outwardly-projecting terminals. One has a thicker body which is internally concave and more solid outwardly-expanding terminals. The seventh has a plain flat body with solid evenly-expanding terminals. All three types are well-known in the British Late Bronze Age, c.950-750BC

Our modern-day taste of wearing objects for personal adornment can be traced back for thousands of years. Items of gold jewellery are found in Norfolk from as early as the Bronze Age. This stunning object is part of a hoard seven penannular gold bracelets found at Foxley, in central Norfolk. Together, they comprise one of the most spectacular discoveries of prehistoric metalwork from the county. Status within Late Bronze Age societyappears to have been associated with the possession of such rare, beautiful and valuable examples of showy jewellery.
