Read Moregallas plough
Originally each region in England would have had a plough of different design to cope with the different types of soil and resulting local condition found there. This ‘gallas’ or ‘gallows’ plough, so named because of its resemblance to an execution platform was found in East Anglia and Kent. Traditionally ploughs would have been made by a local blacksmith and would have been pulled by heavy horses such as the Suffolk Punch breed which are still used to work the land at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse.
