Drawing, 'Wall painting, Limpenhoe Church' by Cornelius Jansson Walter Winter (1817-1891), pencil and watercolour, 1852; 15.9 cmx 22.4 cm; signed in brown ink lower right of subject with monogram 'CJWW. f.'; in brown ink lower margin 'Mural paintings, discovered on the original wall between the N. door and window of N. wall of the Church at Limpenhoe, July 19th.. 1852. / This, and the two following paintings, were discovered while the Church was going under some repairs. The three heads, above with yellow / hair; are the remains of a painting of a later date, and above the last named was written in a beautiful Black letter (of still later date) / appearantly some legendary verses from Scripture, but the accumerlation of white wash above these were so tender that it was impos-/sibely to divide the subjects, distinctly enough; to see the original meaning of them.
