Description

B/w photograph of part of the interior of the Greenland Fishery Museum, Bridge Street, King's Lynn, Norfolk; photographed circa 1920. To the left of the fireplace can be seen the corner post of Walter Coney's house (built c.1450, razed in 1816) which was donated to the Greenland Fishery by Sir Somerville Arthur Gurney in 1912 after it had been preserved by his father Mr Daniel Gurney of Runcton. This corner post showed a carving of a man with bagpipes and a woman chastising her son (see illustration of the post in William Taylor's 'Antiquities of Lynn' 1844). The post is believed to have been destroyed in the bombing of the museum in June 1941.
