Description

Colour postcard photograph of the 16th century east wing of the Hampton Court complex, Nelson Street, King's Lynn, looking north. Vertical timber stud with brick infill and inset windows forms the jettied first floor and there are two dormers set into the pitched tiled roof. The ground floor, originally shops, comprises a window to the left and two to the right of the main ground floor entrance arch to the courtyard beyond. The jettied light coloured section, comprising the south wing of Hampton Court, is seen in the left foreground and is part of the original 14th century merchant's house. The name derives from a 17th century owner, John Hampton, a master baker. The hipped gable end of St. Margaret's House can be seen in the centre, with the jettied front of the former Valiant Sailor public house, once the home of Walter Dexter RA, to the right
