Description
B\w photograph of the 16th century east wing of the Hampton Court complex, Nelson Street, King's Lynn, looking south. The brick ground floor section shows the central entrance to the courtyard beyond with the site of a former shop to the left and of two shops to the right. Vertical timber stud with brick infill and inset windows forms the first floor and there is a gable set into the pitched tiled roof above the former first floor loading entrance which is situated above the main ground floor entrance arch to the courtyard beyond. The jettied light coloured section, seen in the left background, is part of the original 14th century merchant's house and forms the south wing to the Hampton Court complex. The name derives from a 17th century owner, John Hampton. On the left, two schoolgirls stand under the double front jetty of the former Valiant Sailor public house, once the home of Walter Dexter RA
