Description

Christening robe; white lawn; has been altered by the insertion of modern extra yoke on the bodice, fastened with modern press stud, 'DC' embroidered in red and 'Mrs Coke' on the label; drawstring at the neck and the waist; three cotton buttons; shortsleeves trimmed with feather stitching and lace; the shoulders have whitework epaulettes and lace; former backing has lace trimming; the centre panel has whitework and lace insertions; outer lace trimmed bands coming down the bodice have rounded ends below the waist which are lace trimmed; the centre front panel of lace and whitework widens towards the hem; the side panels become further apart and finish in a rounded curve; the whitework continues all round the hem which is also finished in lace; two sets of five horizontal tucks at the back; very fine gathers onto the waistband; hand sewn; number '53' attached
