Description

Dress, purple silk with hand made buttons on cuffs; the upper yoke on the shoulders going into V-shaped bodice in system of tucks, high waist band, front of skirt straight; rear gathered into bustle shape at the back; the bottom edge contains three ruffles; the sleeves puffed leading having two rows of smocking, tuck detail at wrist secured by buttons; cotton lining inside, drawing string, tie waist hook and eye fastening on bodice section [originally believed to be two pieces being sewn together at a later date] dated about 1825
