This combine harvester owned by Norfolk farmer Roland Sherar was one of the first machines of its type used in the county. Passionate about this new technology he subsequently bought four of these impressive machines. Manufactured by ‘International’ of the USA; the machine is a ‘number 8’ type and built between 1926 and 1935 would have been pulled along by a tractor. The advent of the combine harvester meant the jobs of the harvest such as cutting and threshing could be accomplished much more quickly. Although this meant there was less chance of crops spoiling in bad weather it ultimately cut the amount of work available for local labourers.
